Abstract

Despite the similarity of the name, lichen ruber planus and lichen aureus are two different entities. The first is an autoimmune disease, the second is a capillaritis of uncertain etiopathogenesis. When there are only skin pigmentary findings the differential diagnosis between the two diseases can be particularly difficult. Dermoscopy can be useful to overcome the problem.
