Abstract

Peripilar keratin hair casts are cilinder keratin structures, remnant of epithelial sheaths enveloping the hairs in the pilar duct inside the skin. Exceptionally, they can persist around it even after its exit from the skin itself. Peripilar keratin hair casts can be obsevrd sometimes in healthy children during the first decade. In this case, they should be differentiated from nits of pediculosis capitis.
