Abstract
Clinically, lichen aureus is characterized by the presence of papules possibly associated with maculae; however, papules are not always very visible throughout the duration of the disease, which in our series is on average 4 years (1).Histologically, lichen aureus is characterized by a band-like lymphocytic infiltrate in the superficial dermis while the epidermis is not affected; however, in some cases there may be other findings as hyperkeratosis, acanthosis and spongiosis: this is the reason why some cases are not easily classifiable as Schamberg disease, lichen aureus or eczematide-like purpura, leading some Authors (2) to speak generically of pigmented purpuric dermatoses, neglecting the differential diagnosis between the different forms.
The current case was characterized by the concomitant presence of autoimmune diseases in the family and personal history.
