Abstract

Case report. A 21-year-old patient was first observed due to nodular inflammatory lesions of the legs appeared from a few days. The patient reported that from the age of 13 he suffered from recurrences of the same type diagnosed erythema nodosum. The recurrences occurred twice a year, both in winter and in summer, lasted 1 month and were treated usually with oral corticosteroids. During an episode there had been festering with consequent scar. Its early history reported many episodes of tonsillitis for which he had done numerous courses of retarded penicillin; intradermal tuberculin test and chest X-ray were negative; during episodes ESR and CRP moved and then returned to normal. The dermatological examination showed on the front-medial surface of the legs non livid and slightly symptomatic erythematous plaques (Fig. 1). We diagnosed recurrent nodular vasculitis and after excluding dysthyroidism prescribed potassium iodide which was non effective. We then prescribed cyclosporine 5 mg/kg which led to rapid resolution of the lesions (Fig. 2).
